This study analyzed the form and function of illocutionary speech acts in Brian Khrisna’s novel Seporsi Mie Ayam Sebelum Mati. Used a qualitative descriptive method with a pragmatic approach, data were analyzed based on Kunjana’s speech form classification theory and Searle’s illocutionary function theory. The results show that in terms of speech form, declarative sentences (statements) are the most dominantly used category. Meanwhile, in terms of illocutionary function, assertive, directive, commissive, and expressive functions were identified, with assertive functions as the most frequently occurring category. These assertive functions include stating, complaining, reporting, claiming, and informing. The study concludes that the use of varied speech acts in the novel serves as a primary instrument to strengthen narrative and characterization through dialogue.
